Nana's Red Velvet Cake

Total Time: 50 mins Preparation Time: 15 mins Cook Time: 35 mins

Ingredients

  • 2 cups wesson vegetable oil
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup buttermilk or 1 cup milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 ounces red food coloring
  • 2 teaspoons cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 (16 ounce) box powdered sugar
  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Recipe

  • 1 for the cake, mix all ingredients well using a hand held mixer. mix until smooth consistency.
  • 2 bake in three 8 inch layer cake pans at 350 degrees for approximately 35 minutes or until toothpick inserted in middle comes out clean.
  • 3 let cake cool completely before trying to ice.
  • 4 for cream cheese icing, cream butter and cheese together using a hand held mixer.
  • 5 add sugar, vanilla and nuts and mix well.
  • 6 spready evenly on cake.
