Peachtree Street Gingerbread Cake

Total Time: 1 hr 20 mins Preparation Time: 30 mins Cook Time: 50 mins

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups cake flour, sifted
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 egg, well beaten
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 1 cup hot water

Recipe

  • 1 sift flour, soda, spices and salt together.
  • 2 cream the butter; gradually add sugar. cream well.
  • 3 add beaten egg and the molasses; blend thoroughly.
  • 4 stir in sifted dry ingredients alternating with hot water.
  • 5 beat until smooth after each addition.
  • 6 pour into a greased 9"x9" shallow pan, and bake at 180c for 45-50 minutes.
