Grilled Bacon-onion Appetizers

Total Time: 30 mins Preparation Time: 20 mins Cook Time: 10 mins

Ingredients

  • 2 large sweet red onions
  • 12 slices hickory smoked bacon
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 2 tablespoons barbecue sauce
  • fresh ground pepper

Recipe

  • 1 cut each onion into 12 wedges.
  • 2 cut bacon strips in half widthwise.
  • 3 wrap a piece of bacon around each onion wedge and secure with toothpicks.
  • 4 place in an ungreased 13-in x 9-in. x 2-in dish.
  • 5 combine the brown sugar, vinegar, molasses, fresh ground pepper and barbecue sauce.
  • 6 pour 1/2 cup over onions.
  • 7 cover and refrigerate for 1 hour, turning once.
  • 8 cover and refrigerate remaining marinade for basting.
  • 9 drain and discard marinade.
  • 10 grill appetizers, covered, over medium heat for 10-15 minutes, turning and basting frequently with reserved marinade.
  • 11 enjoy.
