Southern Style Fried Catfish

Total Time: 15 mins Preparation Time: 5 mins Cook Time: 10 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 4
  • 3/4 cup yellow cornmeal
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 4 catfish fillets
  • yellow mustard
  • vegetable oil

Recipe

  • 1 heat oil in a large cast iron skillet to 350 degrees. about 1 1/2 inches depth.
  • 2 combine cornmeal, flour, salt, cayenne pepper and garlic powder.
  • 3 coat fish with thin layer of mustard on both sides.
  • 4 dredge catfish in cornmeal mixture.
  • 5 fry fish for about 5-6 minutes.
  • 6 remember don't overcrowd your pan or it won't be as crispy. i usually fry 1-2 fillets at a time.
